Gigapixel Photography
Using a digital camera and a telephoto lens, hundreds of images are stitched together to create a gigapixel panorama image. Each of the smaller squares above shows the detail that can be seen when zooming into a high resolution gigapixel image. Extremely large and high resolution prints can be made from gigapixel images.
Panorama Details
This 3.4 gigapixel panorama of Bangkok was shot from the 17th floor of the Supalai Condominium located at Soi Sukhumvit 101/2. The uncropped panorama was stitched together from 624 images with a combined resolution of over 5 gigapixels. Shooting was done with a Nikon D700 camera with 300mm f/4 lens + 1.4x teleconverter. The camera was mounted on a robotic camera head. The final resolution of this image after cropping is 104,491 x 32,519 pixels with a 120°x36° horizontal and vertical field of view. This 3.4 gigapixel panorama can be printed with extremely high quality as large as 8.85 x 2.75 meters at 300dpi, suitable for very close inspection of details.
